Lately, the Bay Area of California has seen its fair share of wet weather. The rain continues to saturate the ground and flooding becomes the norm and not the exception. That means that many areas of a home might experience flooding or persistent wet areas.

The Wet & Rainy Weather Presents Challenges For Homeowners

There are a few things that homeowners can do to maintain and protect their water heaters during wet and rainy months. The easiest solution is to have your water heater serviced regularly by a professional to ensure proper operation and catch any potential issues before they become major problems.
  • Keep the area around the water heater dry and well-ventilated to prevent moisture buildup.
  • Insulate the water heater and pipes to help prevent condensation and improve energy efficiency.
  • Check and clean the water heater's drain valve and pan to ensure proper drainage and prevent flooding.
  • Inspect the water heater for leaks or rust, and repair any issues as soon as possible to prevent further damage.
  • Keep an eye on the pressure relief valve, if it starts leaking it needs to be replaced.
  • Check on your sump pump to make sure they are working properly to protect the water heater from being flooded in their basement.
  • Raise the water heater onto a short stand to protect it from future flooding in your basement or crawl space, as the space permits.
  • Manufacturer’s do not cover parts or tank if failure is due to something other than normal wear and tear or secondary damage, should the space flood.

If you are unsure how to do any of these things, it is best to call a water heater professional. Contact us today for assistance.
